A RIP dongle is a hardware-based security device that allows RIP software (used for preparing images for print) to run. It often comes with licensed software like Acrorip, EKPrint, or CADlink, and is required for either DTG or DTF printing.
NOTE: Without the dongle, the software won’t Launch.
Key Differences with RIP Dongles

Dongles are often specific to printer types and RIP versions. A DTF dongle might not support DTG printers and vice versa unless it’s a universal RIP (e.g., CADlink Digital Factory).

Some DTF setups use modified Epson printers that also supported DTG. In such cases, the same dongle/software may support both if properly configured.

If you’re buying secondhand, make sure the RIP dongle:

Matches your printer model

Supports DTF or DTG mode accordingly

Isn’t locked or blacklisted (some are limited to specific machines)
